Started only 8 months ago by entrepreneur Iain Crockett and head brewer Steve McDonald, Severn Brewing has created five new craft beers in both casks for pubs and cans for retail. Based in Tortworth near Wotton-under-Edge, the brewery employs a small team of passionate, beer-loving staff who represent the true spirt of the new venture.
“This award means so much to us as producers. We knew our beer was good as it’s selling very well, but to achieve a standard like this in such a small space of time is brilliant,” says Iain. “We all love the taste of our Copper Ale. It’s down to the mix of our British hop varieties, balanced with the right amount of bitterness which gives it a real fruity finish,” says Steve. S7N’s Copper Ale won Silver in the Cask British Bitters category.
The SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) awards are run across SIBA’s eight geographical regions, with the champions from each region moving forwards to the national competition at BeerX 2019.
